Heya Shay,

You should join the ongoing Workshop:

Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 1 - The Head
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=375031&page=1&pp=15

I didn’t know if you had seen it. Going to invite the others from the Workshop as well.

Cheers,

~Rebeccak

Rich-doll where are you kid!? Get busy ; )

Rebecca please stop spamming my thread with you blatant and shameless advertising : p

New work. Need to get some ref and push the figure and shading a little further. Maybe reduce some of the noise.

Thanks demented!

Hello Rebecca… wtf? where r u? ; )

Ello darling. I am beach bound currently! Really cool new work! The character seems a bit androgynous…is that intentional? I’m unable to do any paintovers now, (no PS / Wacom for me) but this is a really strong piece! Care to explain a bit about it? I’ll be more around on Sunday evening. I want to see some pictures of you from the Workshop! I demand satisfaction!

Cheers,

Great painting you’ve done here. But I’ve never liked text on an image. I’m not telling you to get rid of it, but that just doesn’t look right to me. I think some other backrgound could fit better in there. Then again, it maybe just me. The figure need a little tweaking, but here I can’t help, learning myself. Rebecca’s overpaints are awesome

Are that nails in his head or is it just my twisted imagination?

#28

Ahhh sheeees back. I want to go to the beach too damn it. Its going to be like 95 + humid today : (

Androgenous yes. That was the concept here. Any good killer or dememted sould needs to have some other strange characteristics I think. Its obvious they have one mental defect, but it would show in other areas as well. In this case his own masculinity/femininity is in question. Also his arms are intentional long just to make him freakier, if thats a word : )

I will dig up a picture for you, don’t worry : )

Razz - thanks dude! The reason for the text is this is a mock up book cover. I actually am going to rearrange it so that the design looks more like a standard book cover and remove some of the extra noise. I am marketing to art directors for cover illo + design work. I just want to show them that I can and would prefer to do both at the same time instead of them using 2 different people.

And yes, he has nails in his head : p

:scream:Your concept based artwork:thumbsup:Nails on head…Spiders and bees…Hooks and Chains…Text illustration…Allz my fav.
well, dunno abt noise but char is nt much in focus:shrug:thrz too much gud stuff to watch in one canvas:twisted:

Riiiiiiicha!! Hahah, I am sooo normal… I just like weird stuff. FYI - I am going to keep all of the elements but I think I will turn it into a full book jacket so I can spread some stuff out. Thanks for the kind words.

Ahhhhhhhh awesome!!! It’s great to finally see what you look like ~ it’s impossible to tell from people’s avvies, so it’s great to finally put a face to a name.

Did you meet Martin Brennand, aka erilaz, then? He, hp, Dirty_C and some others shared a room I believe.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers,

Shay:) Great to see the good time you had in Montreal workshop. I too wish to meet artists from cgtalk in ADAPT Montreal Conference(Sep 23-24).

:scream: Great pic:)

#35

Richa I’m still waiting for your pic : ) Wish I could meet you in Montreal but I definitely can’t afford to go back right now.

Here’s a new piece from my sketchbook with a little design/paint thrown in.

Heya Shay,

Good to see your new work! Am really liking that background drawing in particular! With the foreground figure, I think the body has a nice dimensionality to it, but I think that something is flattening out with her face ~ in particular around the eyes, which don’t seem to be set within eye sockets, but seem more to be floating on the surface. I do however, know one Workshop where you can practice Portraits to your heart’s content:

Anatomy Lesson Series: Body Part 1 - The Head

I would actually really encourage you to try this, in your own time. Also I would encourage you to draw the Portraits (at least some of them) traditionally. Feel free to set your own time limit, but at least try a few ~ I think you would really enjoy and benefit from doing so.

Cheers,

~RK

Newness : ) Just a little practice in figure and staying loose with my paint technique. I painted this zoomed out 95% of the time and didn’t draw anything first, just blocked values in. Trying to get my menmodel (zhuzhu) inspiration flowing : )

Rebecca thanks. Yeah I added some ghost effects around the face to make her look more alien like. You win some, you lose some ; ) At least I can love the bg and other sketchy stuff. I will see if I can participate some in your latest torture session : p

#38

Shay,

The body looks great! The head I feel doesn’t look convincingly attached to the neck / body ~ for one thing, I think the head looks too small for the body ~ and remember that bit about drawing the head without the hair at first, that really helps to show the real proportional relationship.

Do you plan to work further on this piece?

Cheers,

~RK

#39

Thanks Rebecca. Looking at it again I can see that the hair and the head are not at the same angle. I will probably try and fix, but I don’t want to spend too much time on it becasue it was done at low res.

#40

Shay,

You can always of course resize this up, but I can understand if you’d want to move on. By the way, have you seen this book?

Cheers,
