i just watched the battleship, and inspired to paint over my photo…

The differences between the photo and the painted parts are too jarring. The aesthetic result is not a good one. You need to either make the face look painted, or make the armor look more realistic. Also, even the grain characteristics are too different, where the photo has all this color and luminance noise, while the painted areas don’t.

I repaint the image to make the overall brushwork. I hope it makes an improvement…

Read over Lunatique’s critique again. Don’t rush. Your image is starting to look a bit more interesting. Refine the suit more and integrate the photo element as Lunatique suggests.
