Scalp = hair collision object

#1

What is the correct way to have A:Ms’ hair in V.11 ( the newer version hair ) have collision detection ?
I changed the ‘has dynamics’ option to ‘on’ ( and messed with the radius settings ), yet I see no change.

I thought maybe it needed to be in an action, or perhaps the Choreography window to work right ( Yet I can’t seem to make that work either.)

My guess is that it needs some preroll or something like that .

Any tips ?

( I would like to keep my models hair from penetrating her scalp. )

I also am having problems with controlling the hairs stiffness. I set the stiffness at 100% with no apparent change that I can detect. Am I missing something ?

BTW I’m still using version 11.0 for this project.( I’m using a tablet PC and the interface works better for me )

EDIT : I just spoke to the folks at Hash. It was suggested that I ask you folks.

Thanks

I would say they meant ask on the main Hash forum, but I think the collision detection only happens on those patches that have the hair assigned to it. So you would add the other patches to the group and set the density to 0 on them.

Ken, thanks for the quick response.

Thanks

There’s a density tool beside the grooming brush that can do that.

Set Collisions to “On” in the hair system. Collisions depend on the normal direction of the patches you are colliding with (Hair collides with any patch–doesn’t have to have hair applied).

Thanks zandoria. I’ll have to figure this out some other time.

I’m still doing something wrong.

I think I remember someone saying that the hair does not detect collisions with the emitter patches. Their solution was to make a duplicate scalp that was either hidden or transpent.

Thanks.

How do I know if it is working ? I 'grew ’ some hair and imported a seperate model ( a sphere primitive ).

I then ran the sphere back and forth through the hair with no effect what-so-ever. ( After turning on the collision detection … of coarse.)
Am I supposed to mess with some kind of pre-roll or something ?
