Saving as PNG take years!

#1

Hi,
I’ve created a UVW-Layout in 3D Studio Max with a resolution of 4096x4096
and saved it as .png.
The file is around 400KB, but when I import it in Photoshop and save it again,
it takes about one minute to save this raw file, where nothing has been changed.
When I start painting on the base and try to save everything, including a few simple layers,
photoshop crashes/ or at least it would take years to save that file.
I tried the same with .tif without better results, although I think it’s not a big surprise,
concerning the file size of TIFFs.

Does anyone have a solution or tip for my issue?,
thanks for every reply, in advance!

cheers,
Benjamin

What version of photoshop are you using?

Also, how much RAM does your computer have? You might not have a poweful enough computer to get instant results.

Does this always happen when you save a file? Do you usually have other programs open that take up a lot of room? Most 3D programs take up a lot of memory, which can slow your computer down if you do not have enough memory space to work with.

So those are some things to take into considiration.

this seems to happen sometimes.

consider switching to a different format like:Tiff or .dds or jpg, wich are all capable to carry a alpha channel.if you dont have a plugin to save the dds format,i suggest u use the nvidia photoshop plusin for dds or use Xnormal, wich also has a dds exporter. The dds format has all the benefits and is pretty much standard in the gaming industry now,its very small in size and carrys alpha and mipmaps, also different dxt versions are possible.
