Sample slots

#1

Hello,
I am having problems with the materials… I am new in 3d Studio Max 8. I have more than 24 materials in a scene. But I don’t know how to make more sample slots. It is clear it is a way to do it, I found out this in the reference and in books, but I really don’t know how to make it work:

While the Material Editor can edit no more than 24 materials at a time, a scene can contain an unlimited number of materials. When you are through editing one material, and have applied it to objects in the scene, you can use that sample slot to get a different material from the scene (or create a new one) and then edit it.

Could somebody help me?

Thank you very much!!

Open the material editor and goto utilities>reset material editor slots.

This will reset the editor slots. You won’t loose any material settings. Once they are applied to an object they are stored within the scene.

To choose a specific material applied to an object, open the mat. editor, choose a mat. slot, click on the dropper tool that resides by the name field and click on an object.

Or

Choose a mat. slot, and click the get material button, the material/map browser will open. In the left hand column choose scene and all of the materials used in the current scene will appear. Choose material.
