Ryan Gles: 3d Art WIP Blog

Time for another Screen Shot Saturday! I’ve been working hard on the DJ robot this past week. First developing a block out for the character. In totally, I must of created 50 or more variations of different robot designs all together. This is my favorite by far, it looks completely different from the original silhouette but I made the right choice. I am going for more of a toy like quality for the overall design. I still have a long way to go for detailing this character, but I should be finished modeling him by Wednesday if all goes to plan

WIP Wednesday!
First time posting a WIP Wednesday for a couple of weeks
This week, I just wanted to show the size comparison for the character against the iphone as well as some Colour concepting that I have been working on before I start to UV the character. I’ve also been trying my hand at some 3d tracking, but tracking the footage for the animation is difficult  so time to do some more research about 3d tracking and compositing!

After a month, we are back! So many things have been happening, and before I knew it, a month passed :frowning:
BUT good news  This week I am bringing you a test preview of an upcoming short animation that I am working on for University. Still needs a lot of work, including animation and rendering. Trying to figure out why the character is jittering and shaking but it is looking a lot better now than a few days ago
The character and rig is a custom design. I am animating rigging and modeling in Modo before exporting the animation into Maya for texturing and rendering.
With any hope, I’ll be bringing you an update sometime soon!

Just a little update on the little robot
The video that I uploaded to facebook was majorly compressed, and ended up looking horrible, so with this update, I decided just to link it from youtube
With this update, I’ve added some secondary animation, as well as a more complex walk cycle which reduced the jitter in his walk by about 99.99%, I am hoping that by the end of the project, I can incorporate the jitter as part of the walk cycle.
If you can’t eliminate it, embrace it!

I still have to adjust the timing of the animations, but I am loving the overall look.
The robot has been rigged, modeled and animated within Modo. The final result will be rendered using Maya and Renderman and composited with Nuke.

CC very welcome
