I’m having a hard time with this material (attached), I’m using the mia_material_x rubber presets as a start but not getting it right - can anyone give any suggestion?

ive played with the frosted glass and adjust the reflectivity and translucency which look somehow close but can’t get the shadows and the refraction right

Looks like you need some background and better lighting also.

The light absorption of the reference is almost look like a gummy bear shader but less reflection/gloss

there it is. Sorry for my poor model. Bu ti have no idea on what your model is. 
The scene made with maya 2016 and arealight with mila light on custom shader. So if a problem import the ma and replace with your own settings.
