Rigging objects with separate pieces

I am test rigging a bat, and am trying to keep the wing membranes and wing limbs as separate objects

Has anyone ever rigged multiple parts to a character before? If I combine them and give their verts influence from the same joint will this be pretty effective? If anyone knows a tutorial that covers this could they lemme know ? Thanks a lot its appreciated.

It’s your choice; whether you choose a single geo or pieces. At the end you will have to work extra bit to correct the skinning for the pieces, and often pose an issue while rendering. Here is a link to a demo on wing setup : http://www.vimeo.com/16025980

What kind of rendering issues?

edit: do you know any multi-piece rigging tutorials?

kronique, some issues that might come up are geometry intersection; which results in bad render. sometimes the seam between two pieces can create dark edge in certain render passes & channels!

has any one rigged any bird wings ever…tried like hell…but could not do it.
