Rigging a character in relaxed pose

#1

Hi,
I’m currently rigging a character who is in a relaxed pose, everything works fine until I get to the fingers. The fingers are pretty relaxed as well and a bit bent, and it is pretty hard to get the joints where I want them. I have to jump between all viewport views and make small tweaks, but I never seem to get the joints in perfect position.

I’ve read on this forum before that most people prefer rigging a character in a relaxed pose because it saves them time… but I don’t get it. Am I doing something wrong? Any tips how I can work faster when rigging a character in a relaxed pose?

I appreciate all help I can get.

EDIT: Just realized there is a rigging forum as well. Maybe a mod can move this thread there?

Hi
Select the vertex around the loop where you want to place the joint (persp view). Then create a cluster. Snap the joint to the cluster by holding V. Finally you can delete the cluster.
