Reverse shadow effect


Hello everyone,
i am using 3ds max 2016 and i’d like to obtain a light shape projected. i tried creating a box with a shape cut out from the bottom face, and putting a light inside it. i used a photometric cone light, no GI, no final gather, but i get an undefined smooth light shape. how can i get a more defined shape? Has anyone ever done something like this?

So to clarify you’re trying to project a light shape? The simplest way to do this would be to have an image file of the shape (black and white) and then slot it into the Projector map option that’s under Advanced Effects in the modifier panel options of the light. Hope that helps!


Yes projection map does that, but I don’t think it has to be black and white.
