Resurrected Spartan Soldier

#1

Hey Guys,

I know I’m starting a bit late, but hopefully I can make up for lost time. The first thing that always jumped into my mind whenever I thought about fighting or hand to hand combat were the Spartans of ancient Greece (Sparta). They lived in harsh, punishing conditions from a very young age and knew nothing but battle and warfare for most of their lives. Even their notions of the afterlife dealt with judgemental gods and struggle. It almost seemed their spirit would never rest as far as they saw it.

That lead me to my basic idea for a design. I did quick mock-up of a concept but it’s been forever and a day since I used my hand-skills so don’t be too judgemental yet. I still have a bit of coloring to do, but I wanted to ge this out there to see what everyone thought of it and how it went over.

Character: Resurrected Spartan Soldier
Height: 6’ 2"

I took some liberties with the armor and the material, but hopefully that won’t detract from the final piece.

I look forward to hearing everybodies feedback.

Thanks

looks good. like the concept, but i’m not sure a spartan soldier qualifies as an historic figure. i think the competition requires your entry be a famous individual. no problem really, just rename him SPARTACUS.

‘I’m Spartacus’

‘No, I’m Spartacus’…

Cheers,

Hanzo (Moderator),

What are your thoughts on this. I tend to agree with obelisk. I can change the idea if you think that it doesn’t fit with the contest guidelines.

Thanks

From the first page of the GAC #11 Thread, first post:
“[color=white]To simplify, make either a stylized historical character, or a purly fictional modern character reworked and redesigned.”

I think people just gravitated towards the historical angle. Among the examples given was Lord Sauron, and I don’t recall coming across his name in any history books. Anyway…

The concept is designed with a difficult perspective, and it might have saved you a little trouble to have done a (less exciting) profile/frontal view. Its better to spend that extra time on the character design than worrying about angles lining up. If you have no problems working from it, or you have your own references on hand that’s good, too.

You mentioned the gods, and I think it’d be great if you played up the mythology angle. Maybe he was resurrected to exact revenge, or recover a divine artifact? Or maybe he’s just zombified? Either way, nice choice of subject matter; there is a lot of interesting history there.
