I’ve Got a Game Project in the pre-dev stage, I was wondering if it was okay to ask if any programmers here who are proficiant with C++ would be able to help??

Its a FPS story told in a completly interactive enviroment that completly grabs ahold of the player and keeps pushes them on with all of their senses. Long gone are the games with no reason to play on but to shoot more. The game is Called Crossfire: Alliances, it has Half-life styled story telling. We will be looking into getting a publishing deal, but until someone else pays us its just for free by some people interested in getting into the industry and whome already have some experience.

Programmer needs:

Medium to intricate Knowledge of Programming
Passion for games
Interest in the story.

Must be able to
code while the project changes, so things you coded yesterday may change 2morrow.
produce work without constant pressure.
Meet Deadlines.

This is one of those gigs where you work from home and send your work into a secure site. any intrest emails should go to timgauthier@shaw.ca

Okay Perhaps I did somefing wrong? is it how its written, or am I asking the wrong things. Maybe its the wrong way? Or is just no one Interested?

The best way to start, is to grab a few books on C, and after you learn C from the front to back (And prove it by making many applications) Dive into the C++, Visual C++ and Delphi books.

Delphi is the way to program.

Well honestly the first thing that came to my mind was the fact you are asking for a descent level programmer, plus with things like deadlines, pressure pressure, but also mentioned lack of funds.

I have been programming for over fifteen years, but I’ll be left in the cold if my wife catches me doing any more freebies.

Actually I wouldn’t recommend that you learn C before C++, I’d suggest you just start with C++. I currently don’t have the time to work on a game but I suggest you make a jump to gamedev.com because I think you’ll find programmers looking for graphics people.http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/forum.asp?forum_id=8

Alright Thank you for that link. I fully understand the fact that Its not a paying gig atm, but I’d love nothing more then to be able to pay people to help with this, but thats not really possible right now. I will most definatly check out gamedev.com sounds like it might be a good source to look for coders at :).

I would also suggest looking at and spending time at Flipcode. Its always thrid on my list of places to visit on a daily basis.

Re: Bitmap.

Hmm…I think you asked this before. Oh, well - If you do decide to program it yourself, then I’m always willing to give you good advice on getting up to speed quickly.

Good luck with your project.

Hey Bitmap,

Please dont take this the wrong way…Im just trying to help

This statement right here----> “code while the project changes, so things you coded yesterday may change 2morrow”

Might have been the one to hurt you :thumbsdow

Trust me, no (real coder) wants to see that… I dont think you actually meant what that is actually saying but its a big red flag.

When you start a game project you need to work through you design doc & technical doc and then have it “final”. That way you and the rest of your team knows exactly what the end product is going to be and how it should be developed.

That particular statement would lead to uncontrollable “feature creep”…which in the end would fustrate you to know end because there is no end.

2nd… I have no idea of your skills or what you know so Im just throwing things out here man, …FPS…nice and daunting especially if done from scratch. Youre going to need to actually create “tools” first before you even get going on the engine architecture. Dont get me wrong…it can be done but your looking for coders who either have skills with some type of space partitioning knowledge…ie… Octrees, QuadTrees, BSP etc… tools programmers for graphic files, etc… and people with mathematical apptitude.

If you really want to make this game then my suggestion would be to use one of the available 3D engines (suggestion here is either ORGE 3D or Torque) which will usually depend on if the game is indoor or outdoor.

Any way, good luck Im not trying to tell ya what to do here…just trying to help out a fellow “lone wolf”…dont get discouraged and research some more, and then go back and research some more…

Good luck my friend,

KM
