Replacing Basemesh or posing in MudBox

#1

Hi there.

I’ve just started using Mudbox and I really like it. So far I have been working mostly with the sculpt brush and I’ve just scratched the surface of the program, but the sculpt tool alone does an excellent job

However, I need to make some dramatic changes for my model. I need to repose the front legs of my model and sculpting them into the new position is really a bad option. Also I need to straighten out the back legs of my creature to get a better starting point for rigging. In Maya I have remodeled these parts and I would like to replace my starting point in Mudbox, but I want to keep the sculpt. I don’t think the projection method Wayne Robson made a video tutorial about will work because the legs have moved. The best option would be to repose the legs inside Mudbox, like you can in zBrush. Is tnis possible in Mudbox at all?

Thx,
M

no posing tools in mud so far… but you can use maya for that…
i use a simple rig…

  1. repose your level0 model in maya… dont change the vertex oder…
and import the new one as layer in mudbox…

    1. change the topology of the reposed model in maya…
import the new mesh into the mud scene and bake a 32bit dispmap between them…
      and displace the new model…

Thank you. In my case the vertex order is already incorrect due to mirroring geometry.I could probably try and step back a couple of versions to get the correct mesh, but I’m afraid I would lose some detail. I did however try resculpting it using drag a lot. It woks, but it’s not a preferred way of doing it… I will be more careful in the future with the base.

Mudbox should really get some tools for this. I also tried selecting faces to rotate them without luck. I guess you can not rotate components either?
