Renders running out of space...yet I've gigs of space?

#1

Trying to render a simple video project in After Effects, but it keeps on crapping out saying not enough disc space even though my external drive is 60 gigs with at least 40 gigs wide open. What gives? The resulting render is only about 4 gigs, but it’s obviously screwed up.

Are you maybe running out of physical ram? I had this problem to using 32bit aftereffects. In the end I had to render the whole animation out as a .tiff sequence and then import that into a new aftereffects project and render that out to desired movie codec. I think if you have lots of different file formats in one project it has to do alot more work when rendering it out, im no expert with aftereffects but this seemed to work for me.

No Sully…

Just one avi that I captured and compressed with Sorenson, so it was pretty small when I brougt it into AE. I just needed to add some audio and video fades and some text. That’s it!!! AE loves to quadruple the size of renders when you go uncompressed.

Can’t blame AE for that. Uncompressed is uncompressed… Well, whatever. Check your external drive’s file system. Sounds like a classical case of FAT32 file size limit. If it is, then no dice. The file needs to be split or you reformat your drive with NTFS/ HFS+/EXT or whatever.

What format are you trying to render out to? A little more info would be handy if you want some help?
