Renderman Error

#1

Hi Maya users,
I downloaded the free non commercial license of Renderman. Once the installation was done i set the environmental variables for the Maya module --> plugin folder and these two RMANTREE=/opt/pixar/RenderManProServer-20.1 , RMSTREE=/opt/pixar/RenderManStudio-20.1-maya2016, as well.
When I started maya and loaded the plugin it showed up this message // Error: initializePlugin function failed (RenderMan_for_Maya) // and did not worked.
What could be the problem. I read something about creating a module file or something similar but i dont know how to do this.

Thanks

I thought they had the directions about all that over at the Renderman Forum?

Yes in fact there are the instruction, but even if I did what they wrote it does not load correctly.
And they just wrote that you have to create a module file. But not how.
Could somebody tell me how he installed the programm correctly?

Thanks

Never tried it on Linux. On Windows tho, I need to install it to its default directory (C:\Program Files\Pixar) else the license would fail to initialize itself.

The first few tries I installed it to D:\Pixar, never worked.

Thanks for the reply. I am using Windows too and installed it on the default path.
For some reason it is still not working.
Could you describe what you did after the installation, including which environmental variables you added.

Thanks

#6

You are on Windows and you set the environment variables to point to Linux locations?

#7

No Problem! I fixed the issue.
I didn’t set the environmental variables for the Pixar License file.

I think the free RFM is only built for Maya 2015, though I haven’t check the site for the updates.

#9

By default the installer now will only show you Maya 2016. To get 2015 to show up you have to check a box saying “Show all” so I dont think thats the case Kosing. If anything it feels like Pixar wants us to use it on 2016.

Yeah, I tested it and it worked, its been a while since I installed the free Renderman, never knew they provided a plugin for Maya 2016
