rendering vector (maya vector render engine)

#1

hey everyone.
I’ve a simple task that became more complicated than I expected.

I need to render a simple wireframe of a sphere. but I need it as a vector file (.ai, .eps).
I’m using maya vactor to achieve this.
problem is it either turns out too detailed (example 3) or with sharp edges (example 2) and I want to achieve smooth curves and detail level just as presented in the viewport (example 1).

is it possible to achieve through a single render? i not, any ideas for work arounds? (sophisticated masking, edge creasing, anything? )

help is greatly appreciated
thank you.

I’m pretty sure there isn’t any way to get Maya Vector to render subdivision curves. It might be able to render NURBs; failing that, you could render with mental ray and then use live trace in Illustrator.

a friend found a working solution which can be found here .

a method of softening\hardening your edges before smoothing your mesh. worked like a charm.
