Rendering Multiple Cameras

#1

I have a Lightwave 9.5 scene file with 9 cameras that all need to be rendered out. Does anyone know a way to automate this? Right now I have to Que up 9 different versions of the scene with a different cam selected and file out path. I would like to be able to set it up once, send it to my render farm and be done.

Any render management tool capable of this?

Go to master plugin panel and select CAMERA SELECTOR plugin. You can find on help as well.

good look

Well… if you want to render all 9 cameras from frame 0-100, Camera Selector will only pick the last camera added.

However, Camera Selector is a great tool if you want to cut between cameras during x number of frames and render as such.

I had this same dilemma. I ended up copying multiple camera keys (using quicksheet) onto one camera with one frame between CAM1 to CAM2.
I really don’t see much of a point of having multiple cams unless you can render them all in one scene. Seems short sighted of Newtek.

here is the quicksheet way to do this if you’re unfamiliar with it as I was.

“…use the quicksheet, just above the frame bar.
Click on the edge to open it.
Select the camera whose keys you want to copy, select the keys by left clicking and dragging, right click on one of them, chose copy or cut keys.
Go to the main camera. Go to where you want the new motion to start, create a key, this is very important. Right click on that key and chose paste keys.
That’s it.” NoStr0m0

Uhm…

That sounds like a job for Camera Selector (which is a tool that allows you to tell LW to cut between cameras when rendering). So, you can have cam1 to render frame 1-100, cam2 to render 101-200, cam3 to render 201-300 and so on. That works perfectly well using Camera Selector and it also works within LW itself, so that you can see the cuts interactive in the viewport.

HOWEVER… there is no way to tell LW to render cameras that are set to render the same frames. Lets say you have 3 cameras that should render frame 1-300 so that you end up with 3 image sequences from 3 different angles, all showing the same animation.

Interesting…according to both the help files and the manual docs this should not be possible with Camera Slector…

Camera Selector

“The CameraSelector master plug-in lets you switch between multiple cameras. Note that this cannot be used to switch the camera during a render-the current camera is still used for that. However, you can use it to switch between cameras while playing a scene in Layout or when creating a preview anim.”

I did test it and it definitely does work although a bit temperamental. It was crashing on render for a bit, then discovered all cameras need to be same resolution or it will crash.

We used Camera Selector to render an animatic scene once and that worked flawlessly. But, I didn’t know that the resolution has to be the same though (apparently I was lucky that time).

I’m not sure though, if it would work with screamernet. Have to test it someday.

Also, worth mentioning is that there are TWO Camera Selectors (you may have noticed it too). One that is called “CameraSelector” and another called “Camera Selector”. Notice the HUGE (not) different name! The one I show in the video is the new version. The other is an older version that should be compatible with older versions of LW.

I know for a fact that the one I used when I rendered an animatic was the “old” version, because it was in LW8.x.

EDIT: The docs seem to be outdated though…
