Rendering Maya Particles - Software?

#1

Edit: Apologies, managed to solve my problem.

I’m currently working on a scene for my portfolio and I decided to add in some rain effects. So instead of doing the Paint Effects rain, I opted for rain via dynamics. So far it looks pretty good, but I can’t get it to render outside of Maya Hardware (and the whole scene looks pretty bad like that).

So far I feel that I have two options:

  1. Find a way to render Streak particles with Maya Software (still looking for a tutorial/video/help guide on that)

  2. Animate the scene, render it out without the rain in Software, then render it again in Hardware but with all the visibility off for the geometry, then composite it in (not sure if this will work).

Dynamics are kinda…hinky for me, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

what’s wrong with hardware rendering particles…? You can add magic to it in comp?

Actually, I managed to find a way to render only the particles with Hardware Rendering so I can render the animation with the software.

Never tinkered with only doing the hardware render before so 'twas a challenge for me. Going to end up compositing the rain over top of the animation later on.
