Render Xgen description with anisotropic shader and ptex maps - no color showing

I am using Xgen in Maya 2015 Ext 1 and rendering with Mental Ray

I have created to Ptex maps for the root color and tip color and was using both of them successfully, mapped to root_color and tip_color and using the default xgen_hair_phen shader.

I then created an anisotropic material and assigned that to the description. This worked nicely with a ramp mapped to color, and using two colors in the ramp. When I use xgen_ptex_lookup nodes mapped to the ramp colors, the maps are definitely being used, but they only render as greyscale, with no color.

I’d appreciate any help or suggestions here please.

Update on this, for anyone else trying to render xgen hair. I don’t think you can use standard shaders like anisotropic and blinn to map in this way.

I have now plugged the out color of my ramp into the color of my initial x_gen_hair_phong and everything works fine. So I will roll with that and tweak it a bit.
