Render passes and EXR file question

Hi all,

I have made some renders in vray (in 3dsMax) and it`s possible to save the files as OPENEXR file extension.

Can anyone tell me how to save EXR files in Maya please. (I notice they are saved in a separate folder automatically, is this correct)

Also it`s time that I start to render out separate passes and I intend to make an animation. If anyone has any good links to how to make render passes (AO, Shadows, Diffuse etc), that would be a great help.

I`m thinking of using nuke to combine the passes…but I might have to ask about that later…
