We have a Deadline managed render network between different workstations in our office and we’ve noticed differences in how Maya Renderer and Mental Ray render images on a Mac and on a PC. Is there any way around this? Any best practices to avoid the issue?

it’s actually mac/linux vs windows as far as differences.
Don’t think there’s a way around it other than running a virtual machine on the windows machine to run linux or just install linux

the differences is in the raytraced sampling patterns. From far away you can’t tell, but if you zoom in close you’ll see the noise pattern shift between the unix/linux and windows platforms. There might be more differences, but that’s what I notice. It might not even specifically be raytraced samples.
It could be just samples in general - such as antialiasing. I’ve mainly seen the difference the most in the obviously raytraced portions of the image though.
