Remove background

I cannot remove the background from a logo I have created. I am using Photoshop Elements. I bought a book and I searched the help index’s and I could not find how to do this. I’m somewhat new to Photoshop but not a very beginner. I created the logo on a transparent background, but when I save it there is always a square border around the logo, usually white. I just want a .jpg of the logo itself.

Do not save it as jpg. It does not support transparency - save it as png or gif.
