I was attempting to use the “color remap” in the effects dropdown in the file node.
The goal of which is to bend the values in a displacement map up or down to get more of a push or pull effect depending on needs.
As if I liked the way the mid grey and white values were acting but that I wanted more bias towards the black colors to create deeper crevices without changing the mid to white values and hence those displacements are left unchanged.
When I use the color remap it seems to crunch the colors down to 8bit from any 16 or 32 bit image because it creates the stepping often seen when using an 8 bit image for displacement.
Does anyone know if this is the case?
