Referencing

#1

Hi,

I know that before starting to animate the character we have to reference the rigged file.

Do we also have to reference the finished character model before starting to rig? Im asking because after rigging the character maybe i will have to update the model or shading/texturing…

Thanks.

Hi
This depend more on the pipeline which you will follow.
Referencing the rig to the animation file:
This help you to retain the animation on the controls that you have done when one reload an updated rig. But the ctrl name should be same or the animation is ruined, there could be add on to the rig. These add on don’t hamper the animation . Finally the cache (point, geometry or alembic ) is exported and imported on the textured file and used for lighting n render.
But referencing a model to rig doesn’t update the deformer (skinCluster or cluster etc.) that are applied on the mesh, whenever the model is tweaked. The rig has to be worked on to update the deformers. As this rig is refrenced for the animation scene, it will be a diaster even further down animation.
So it will be easy to have the model direct on the rig file and update model changes as and when it is required.
Further the scene reading and save time will depend the reference loading each time.
So again having model direct into rig is more fast.
