Referencing a character with driven keys

Hi all,
I have this character with a few driven keys, and when I reference the character in a scene, I can’t key the driven channels (or the driver channels).

In my case the driver is the RotateY of the upper arms, so I really need to be able to animate them.

Is there a work-around to this problem?

any connections in a reference are locked, to preserve it, which is why you can animate those channels.

Tbh you shouldn’t really set them directly onto objects you intend to move.
Instead in the rig file create an empty group, parent it to the control, turn the groups translates and rotates to 0 then parent the control to the group.
Now set the driven key on the group and you can still animate the control when its referenced.
