Hi,
after workin my a** off getting hair&fur to look right, i´ve moved on to the next challenge:
realistic skin.
I know it´s one of the harder things to texture/shade, so i´d love some advice on shading/texturing.
Currently i´m working with Mental ray/Max and the Fast SSS+displacement shader.
Here are some renders (had to upload to flickr, since i maxed out my space here):
Face (don´t mind the eyes, they´re just temporary)
Here are the textures i´m using (leaving out bump and displace):
and the shadertree:
Off the top, these are the issues i´m seeing:
1.) coloring around the eyes is to pronounced.
2.) overall coloring needs some more detail (maybe use the bump map to darken the diffuse areas?)
3.) it still looks somehow waxy. must be the specular settings/maps i guess. what are good overall greyscae values to get rid off the waxy look?
another question: i painted some pimples/moles on the unscattered diffuse color map, but they don´t seem to show up.
I heard is should use the overall diffuse color slot for those, but how do i do that?
create a map with transparency, grey values or just the same base color for the skin i used in the unscattered diffuse slot?
And what about the epidermal map? i just read it has to be “desaturated”, but just desaturated or completely greyscale?
Tips and critique appreciated!
