Realism/Likeness - Lagertha from Vikings

#1

Hi y’all

has been a long time since i’ve looked for feedback on forums for something,
but i think this would be a great change to do it. I’m trying to push my
sculpting(and later on) rendering skills to see if i can achieve better
photorealistic results, and i guess this would be a good place to look for feedback.

im on the process of sculpting Lagertha as ive just
finished watching Vikings season 1 and i found that she
would be a good try since she is beautiful yet some of
her facial features are a bit extreme(and very asymetric).

there’s quite still a few things off but i’m at
that point where im back and forth(maybe ive been looking at her for too long. If you guys could give me some feedback
on this would be great!

That already looks really accurate!

The reference picture is small, but I think her lips should be a slight bit rounder. Also her jawline looks a little more pronounced in your sculpt than does the picture. the outer corner of her eyes look like they should be pulled up a bit.

I did a quick image search, and overall she has a very soft and feminine look, while your sculpt seems to be a little stronger overall, which in a way makes her look a bit more masculine.

I can’t find a profile picture of her to compare, but it looks like your model has her nose/mouth area pushed out farther than her eyebrow area. Maybe that’s how she actually looks, I just haven’t seen her profile.

Overall, it looks great! Way better than I can do!

thanks for the good feedback
indeed there was a bunch of stuff not matching up…hopefully today will look better/more feminine/closer to the real girl …tho today i did everything with eyesight and didnt really measure…hope didnt go backwards :X

today’s update.

here’s today’s update. i feel i made some progress, but also i think i went backwards in a few things. what you guys think?
i definitly not happy with 3/4 view or sideview yet

Hi FabioMSilva,

Her face looks a bit different than this photo.

IMHO she has a more rounded Face and softer nose.
But it is a really nice work and update!

Cheers!

Nice start. Don’t know from which pictures reference your side and 3/4 view are based but I did that quickly

#7

thanks guys! glad to see you guys like it so far and im very thankful for all the feedback.
ive been reworking the profile view…but didnt change much…(i guess it was already close?) i noticed that the nose side needs to lift a bit up and that the lips may need to be a bit fuller. the chin is a mistery…

also need to make the eyes a bit more straight i guess

also…when i rotate…bam…everything in the front view got weird…oh boy…

c&C super welcome.

wasnt too happy with the sideview still cuz it messed up all my other proportions and relations so went back a few ztools and im trying to trust my eyes…lets see…gotta remeasure the face using landmarks tonight tho to see if i didnt mess up. my sleepy eyes seem to tell me it looks better tho

Does this work better for you?

#13

yah working thanks

#14

Looking really really really good

#15

Damn! That Shading looks awesome!! :deal:
What kind of software are you using for rendering?

#16

I really like your shaders! How detailed are you planning on going, because you could add some very very fine hair on the skin for some micro-details…(just a suggestion)

#17

thanks guys!

Im using 3dsmax + Vray

#18

oh sorry Joshua, missed your post for some reason.
Yeah, i will be adding some peach fuzz later on

here’s some more work in the texturing. i have cut her eyes because right now theyre a bit of a distraction from the rest of the skin
im also tweaking her the nose a bit in the next iteration as i think its too wide(and the tone is a bit too red/dark atm as well. Im also tweaking the specular values on the next one as its a bit too glossy atm.

Keep up the good work Fabio, I am loving the modeling and shaders. I don’t know if it’s because you cut out the eyes, but from the grey-scale, I would say that you have conquered the Uncanny Valley. Seriously good work buddy.
