in 2.53beta i have discovered indirect lighting, allowing me to make some objects become small light sources. but is there a way to make this work with the emissions being raytraced? so far i can only activate indirect with approximate and not raytrace. I am figuring Ray Tracing will stop some of the light bleedthrough on objects.
Raytrace Indirect Lighting?(2.53 beta)
yeah, the implementation in the official beta is implemented only for approximate,
if you want to try out the ray-traced global illumination(FG? edit: sorry, irradiance cache) you need an up to date build of render branch, I’d suggest graphicall.org but it currently going trough some difficulties.
I will give that a shot once they are fully back and running again.
I did notice they where having some issues where Chrome and Firefox said they where an attack site. I am sure they will get it resolved though.
Ok even without one of the special versions of blender from graphicall, I still took an oppertunity to abuse this feature to full abuse…
well the water surface does have reflection as an attribute.
the boat itself just has all materials set to an Emit of 2.0 and then in the World settings i set Gather to Approximate and enabled Indirect lighting and set its factor to 2.0 with manual entry(can only mouse it to 1.0).
I plan to poke around the Graphicall builds though and see if one of them allows “Gather” to be set to raytrace and still use “Indirect Lighting”. in the offical blender.org builds the indirect option goes away when raytrace on “Gather” is enabled.
Oh sweetness I have been looking for this how to raytrace the environment better, so it was environment lighting… Really appreciate this, thanks a bunch my man.
Where do you activate indirect lighting? on the lightsource?
In world settings in Blender 2.53 beta. however it does not have Raytracing yet, id imagine one of the Graphicall builds might. but i have yet to find it in the version I got.
But yes in the world settings you can raytrace anything but the indirect. to get the indirect checkbox and its related options you have to run approximate. unless one of the graphicall builds has a python script to do otherwise. the build i got does not trace indirect. but id imagine that is coming.
Ahh I understand, the same in my version. I also use the blender official version but 64 bit.
You seem to know your stuff filanwizard, I got a question for you.
-In a scene, if you want to drop your objects onto a plane and to get the objects to interact with eachother without setting any kind physics… is this possible? Just to drop the objects so that they stay on top of eachother on the plane? This kind of troubles me because I haven’t found the best way to do that, sometimes it is difficult to search the right term for something like that aswell.
//I have tried just with adding gravity but no luck with it this far…
//sry for hi-jacking your thread, I hoep it is ok?//
Sadly i have not used that feature yet, most of my objects i just try and set them on a plane visually in wireframe mode. I only know about indirect lighting from messing around with it. but i am sure someone here will have the correct gravity answer.
I do the same actually, just til it look right. ok I am gonna do a new thread regarding this… Hard to find info sometimes regarding this 2.53 version.
Thanks again.
Btw Filanwizard, how did you do that water?
Was it with the cloud setting?
Started to mess around with water lately and have a hard time make it convincing.

Clouds and Stucci and fidding with the normals settings. as well as mirror and transparency. i made the water appear Dark simply by cheating and throwing a black colored plane just below it with zero reflectivity at all.
is the blend for the water i have, but i am sure others have done far better water.
Sweet, thank you.
I like the idea with the black colored plane.
Made this one yesterday but the ripple settings started to bug the hell out of me, I used clouds aswell.

I noticed you used soft noise settings aswell, have seen some tutorials on hard noise usage but it doesn’t make for a good result, could be I am doing it wrong.
Messed around a little more with soft settings.

Ah well, sorry for messing with your thread.
Thanks again.
