Question on work flow

#1

My client have a DVD presentation consist of 3 chapters and she want to make a total makeover from changing the voice over, image insertion and the menu. My problem is she doesnt have the original footage. Im not into editing but use after effects just for basic things.
I dont know the workflow of editing though i dont have problem learning premiere and encore. (adobe learning resource is nice)
my question is regarding work flow… rip the dvd-import to AE (make some changes)
import to premiere then encore but i dont know if i need to render the footage with compression or not then import to premiere? Im concern about the quality (too much comression)
I was thinking to render without compression but the file is too big and dont know if import to premiere and encore will have a problem.
need help

IMO even with files of over 30gig Encore and Premiere are fine. After Effects - not so sure.

Not really sure why you’re going into After Effects for this job if all you need to do is rip, edit and burn. You can just copy the .vob files from the DVD and rename them as .mpg and they should import to premiere fine.

However you are correct about compression. you’re going to need to reencode at least once in order to get the timeline into DVD standards compatible video.

You might like to ask your client what she intends to do with the DVD - is it for sale to the general public? If it’s something high-profile then I would just double check about the footage. Someone must have a copy.

If you’ve ever seen re-encoded mpeg-2 video then you’ll know why I’m suggesting this…

Thanks Daniel
Probably im comfortable with AE (software knowledge) and using its filters.
I was thinking to add the audio in premiere and move it to encore.
I dont know yet how dynamic link works if i need to render first in AE to import to Premiere.
uncompress file will go as 15G, though Encore can handle this
just dont know how Encore will compress it to fit in a Dvd disc.
