Question about Texturing/Painting in Mudbox

#1

Hey all,

I was wondering how I would approach this. I am modeling a humvee in 3ds Max and adding more detail to it in Mudbox. What I usually do is model in 3ds Max, export a hi poly obj to use in Mudbox, export a low poly obj to apply UVs in 3ds Max, bake using xNormal to get normal and ambient occlusion maps, then texture/paint the maps using Photoshop to create diffuse and spec maps. I have done this workflow before and it works great, but I would like to use Mudbox’s painting features and paint my model through that instead. I am not sure how to approach this since only my low poly model will have UVs. Is there another way you would recommend?

Thanks!

just paint your lowpoly in mudbox…
if you get troubles with the lowres mesh subdivide it without smoothing it… there is an option for in the subd settings…
