Question about Modeling workflow

Hi guys …this is my first time to post plz give me some advises about the modeling workflow

The first question is - when i using mud box to do the modeling stuff , what is the retopo

for ?..because there are two ways to achieves it .

the first one is using retopo by mudbox’s setting using curve to define the edge loop

the other method is using topogun

which one is better to do retopo works ? because using mudbox’s setting is easy and fast ?

but i looked at some major companies’ workflow they are using topogun ? so i am really confuse
now?

and what is retopo for ? is it only for game or ?

If you can get away with auto-retopo, go for it. It won’t always give you the results you want, though, which is where doing it by hand in Topogun comes in.

Retopo is used to create an efficient version of the ultra high polygon density needed for the sculpted mesh. Imagine a fully rendered scene using a bunch of characters and complex environment, render times would sky rocket if every asset used was straight from zbrush.
