Pyroclast in AE?

#1

Is there a way to do a real-looking thick heavy pyroclast with highlights and shadows in AE?

I have an older version of Particular, otherwise no other plugins.

Is it generally better to be done in a 3D app? I have C4D but it’s particles system isn’t that great (realistic, that is - it’s great for motion graphics and stuff, but not for realistic FX work) and it would render MUCH slower than AE - hence, my preference.

Thanks for any ideas, or at least a good “shrug”.

Perhaps you can look into Particle Illusion? It does smoke and explosion effects so it just might do a pyroclastic cloud.

I had totally forgotten about Particle Illusion! I’ll check it out today - thanks!

There was a pre-comp on trapcodepeople.net before it went away that was a very intense explosion. I found the file here: http://www.scottfrizzle.com/free.html

Warning - the file is VERY intense and will make normal PCs cry and shake, make sure you have an up to par box.
