Punk Rock Video - looking for team

#1

Hello, I am going to be putting together a music video and would like to get a team of people to help. This will be my first music video done in CG. I have chosen a band that I have some friends in who are going to be recording this weekend (July 24 & 25). They are recording four political songs that we will have a choice of using. I will be sitting down with the band members early next week to figure out what the video should be about. From there I hope to get help from a team. This project is open to all creative input.

Looking for help in:
2D storyboard/character design
3D modeler(s)
Texture Artist
3D animator (especially a 3D animator)

This is something I want to do to get some more completed CG experience under my belt. I will be ready to rock on this project as soon as I am done with the project I am doing now, which should be the first week of August.

The band is called “The Munjers”
The four songs they are recording are:

  • When Church & State Combine
  • Conformaication
  • Burry Me Alive
  • Making the Bombs (Circle Jerks Cover)
*I think all of the songs are around 2 minutes
**I will edit this post later and put up the MP3’s after the songs are mixed.

I am experienced at making videos, you can check out some of my prior work here: Downloads (double click in the center of the window to make it play) and if that doesn’t work go here Snowvid - you gotta have quicktime!

I am using Lightwave and have 2 G4’s and a G5 to render with.

Please email me with some of your work if you are interested - jared@somnambulance.com, or post here.

There’s not many good punk vids out there (all pretty cliched, same old stuff) which is probably largely due to the limited budgets. Check out Punk-o-rama videos collection (if you haven’t already)- Millencoln- song-Kemp, director-Stylewars, excellent CG on a budget with a narrative/ ideas thrown in. Bad Religion- song-Sorrow, director-Boo, nice visual style with CG elements comped in (pity the CG was so cheap looking).

I assume this is a zero budget sort of job so it'll be interesting to see what corners you are going to cut and how effectively you can use CG in the vid (i assume youre not planning to do the whole thing in CG). I did a free job for a friend a while back which was 2 mins animation (incl concept/storyboards/rendering) in 10 days (an example in major corner cutting but still effectively comunicating the idea) have a look at [http://www.undercurrents.org/unn/](http://www.undercurrents.org/unn/) down page to -watch unn online (sorry 30 seconds of trailers first), also check out some of the other links for all things political and GNN like.

I'm busy doing a music vid at the moment, but if you want to discuss ideas or fast and dirty CG techniques i'd love to give my 10 cents worth (i've been using Maya for 4 years, ran a design company for 8 years).

Best of luck with getting the team together, you could alternatively use genetically modied flying uber-monkeys who you could train to tap a keyboard at high speed (which is apparently what most CG creation consists of), however the problem of frequent masturbation might well arise so you would need to have them fitted with boxing gloves/ horses hooves.
