Puffing billy _ Steam Locomotive explode

This is the Wip

i made it with Maya and Ncloth… but the effects is not really good, i’m goingo to redo the simulatin of explosion using Bullet (maya 2012 with plugin instead)
the biggest problem of bullet is i’ll lost the possibility to deform the geometry, and the matching original mesh (i’ve use it to match the movement of every single part of machine till the explosion right u can see)

well now the hard work is that… understand how can i make the explosion in a certain moment with bullet manteining the right position of single part and the inhert velocity.

i’m going in the end to add more smoke fluid stuff and a pair of particle system to simulate interaction whell-rail with stick flashing thinghs and… another one to add some stupid stuff during the explosion

in the end, but important thing, i’m going to set up the animation of machine with a right script for the interaction of moviment and rail… if u see now, u can see that is a little sliding…

Thanks. Simone

I was going to say something about the wheels sliding but I see you’ve already planned ahead for that problem. :applause:

I think your animation is going to look pretty awesome once it’s done. Looking forward to it.

Thanks man, have you suggest some scipt for the whell ? i’ve 2 problem, is not a “straight” rail and i need to calculat tangent in it, and… the movement footage obbly my to increase and decrase the velocity of locomotive to center thar in the scene… and that annoing me…

do you think is better works in maya 2013 with bullet instead or use 2012 and bullet plugin from the site?

Unfortunately I don’t work in Maya. What I would do to make sure the wheels doesn’t slip, is to model a low quality track and match that with the track in the video. I’m sure there must be some script in Maya that will make geometry roll on other geometry. That way you can align your train’s wheels to the track and and simply move the train on the track to suit the speed in the video.
