We had similar problems once with very large images. In our case photoshop had a problem with the massive *.psds - it was using enormous amounts of memory when trying to load the *.psd with all its layers at once. Our solution was to open the image in fusion on a machine that allowed fusion to use the 3Gig-Switch (i.e a machine with 4 Gig of RAM) and render out the single layers from there to feed them into Photoshop as separate images.

buffer_saver plugin should work, you just have to manually add the layers together in PS.
Or the EXRtrader plugin (commercial)

thanks to everyone for the answers!

>>bearfoot
saving from image viewer there are no problems, only with psd export…

>>fishhead
doh i don’t have a similar machine, but still 2gb of ram…and the files is 200Mb, not that big, you think?

>>softdistortion
this sound interesting, i never tried it…but for every channel i’ve to do a render? or it’s like psd exporter, with one render pass it exports every channel?

thanks!

ok i’ve found the plugin by dstorm, the render and the output images are good this time!

the ugly thing is manually adding and setting manually every layer in pshop, width psd exporter everything was easier…

anyway, i didn’t find reflectivity channel, is this missing?
thanks!

it exports all the ones you checkbox …they all get rendered as seperate image files, then you have to assemble them in PS.

Another way I find that plugin useful is for animations …multiple instances running to spit the passes into seperate folders. There’s better ways to do it I guess, but hey, it’s free and pretty fast too.

There are some other buffer savers as well.

In that case, you may want to take a look to ProEXR and Exrtrader. EXRs are not only more advantageous than PSDs due to its high dynamic range and linear light nature, but also because its lossless compression (what saves a lot of disk space).

Check the Ref RGB option. There’s also independent RGB channels for reflections.

thanks to everyone! i’ve found the problem, lw was going out of memory due to the complexity of the scene (!!!)…i tried to simplify it, toggling some textures and everything was good…

EXR seems to be an interesting format, i’ll take a look to it, thank you very much!
