proper walk cycles in 3ds Max

#1

I’m mostly new to this, and I find that there are many tutorials out there, but none of them actually explain in detail the best way to do it.
If anyone has links or can explain, please post here.

Mostly, I just want tips.

The best tutorial and tips I have seen in a long time is the cg channel reality training DVD
animation series volume 1 man walkcycle with Jonathan Abenhaim.

Its excellent. It will take you through how to animate a walk cycle in an hour with all sorts of techniques on work flow and procedure. You should have a base knowledge of character studio to follow the tutorial. It costs money but its a great investment and he is so off the wall you want be bored. A great way to start.

Sweet. Thanks.

Does this DVD cover normal rigs that don’t use CS?

the Doom 3 custom monster tutorial has a walk-cycle for Skin/Bones http://trepaning.com

No It actually only deals with Biped but the techniques and work flow i believe can be used in any program as long as your familiar enough with the rig that you can apply the methodology. My friend is a maya guy and bought it and said he learned alot on speed and approach to a walk cycle. He also said that Maxs tools are much faster at laying down animation then Maya unless you do some customization . But thats a whole other subject
