Programming Language

#1

Ok, I’m incredibly confused lol. I wan’t to begin creating games and such. I posted that earlier, but after looking around the forum I’m even more distraught. I thought you program in C++ but now I’m seeing it’s in DirectX. It was my understanding that you used C++ as a means to create an engine and incorporated programming within the engine to utilize DirectX for better shading and rendering. Boy, why can’t there be somebody locally that I can talk to. I’m so lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Jeremy

P.S. Thank you in advanced

P.S.S Being a computer graphic forum, I suck at drawing. Not bad, but not great. Do you all think it will hinder my performance in 3ds max 8?

Edit: Just realised I put this in the wrong forum. Sorry

You don’t program in DirectX, you use DirectX. DirectX is an application interface (API), that means (briefly said) it gives you certain predefined functions you can use in your program - in this case graphics, sound and input utilities. The language of choice using those functions can be C++, but you could also use Delphi or other languages which have a wrapper to the DirectX API.

Well it doesn’t hurt if you’ve got some understanding in Art, but 3D modeling has not so much to do with 2D drawing. Anyway - people who can draw do the better 3d models (at most), because they have a better understanding of how things should look like. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get as good as they are. Practice is everything
