Procedural scratches in Cinema 4D..

#1

Hey guys,

I was wondering what the best way to go about creating procedural scratches would be in Cinema 4D (as seen in the image of the Indigo Renderer shader attached). I’ve tried solutions that mostly use a scratchy bitmap, but it gets complicated incorporating them into more complex shaders because their scales need to be different (plus, it just never looks quite as good as this, for me anyway). Hopefully that makes a bit of sense.

I suppose this would be best accomplished by a seamless bitmap?

And another question, if I may: I’ve heard quite a few times that specular highlights are too fake looking and actual reflections are the way to go, but in my experience it’s difficult to achieve really dull, wide “plastic-like” highlights using C4D’s reflection channel alone. Is it common practice to use both the reflection and specular channels together? I suppose achieving a pleasing result is the ultimate goal, but I just wanted to see how others go about it.
