Problems rendering SSS shaders using Mental ray on maya

#1

Hello everyone!

I’m looking for any Mental Ray experts that might be able to help me.

This problem started resignedly with a file I being working on for a while, and it’s concerned with artifacts and some kind of pink and white noise in the rendering.

Check the image to see the problem.

I thought it might be lack of ram because it keeps affecting other materials and different files too.

It might also be the light map that connects to SSS, because it also connects to other materials.

I have tried twice to redo the file from scratch reconnecting all the textures to a new SSS shader and it will fix it for a while, but then it pops back in.

It grows as I render, the more renders the more it grows so I feel like it’s storing that bad data somewhere, like cache.

It’s a real pain and I’m not sure what else to do, I was gonna try and re-do everything in v-ray, but I don’t know how to do hair there.

Anyways thanks for everything and I hope you can help me out.

Cheers!

Leo

I don’t know whether this is b’coz of the ram issue ,if you think it is then check on the allocate on heap in the options tab.
I would recommend you should check your lighting setup again specially if you are using final gather

Thanks, I thought it might be lack of ram because it keeps affecting other materials and different files too.
However I have tried it in two working stations with 8 core processors and 8 gigs of ram, one was a power mac the other a windows computer and the same problem appears.

Paolo Mazzoccato suggested that it might have to do something with my area lights being “visible” on the mental ray tap, but I think if I turn on that option my blackbody light and my portal light wont work anymore.
