Prevent "Display" Connection of Joints

#1

Hi,

Normally, when you parent a joint to another, you will see a drawing of bone representing their hierarchy.
I’m currently doing a facial rig mostly by joints and as you might guess, viewing the viewport is kind of a mess. I cannot see properly because of the drawing of the bones.

As such, is there a way to prevent “display” connection of joints?

P.S. I need the joint to appear(the circle one) so I can understand the pivot and able to select them.

you can in the attribute editor in the joint tab -> draw style -> set it to none

If you want a joint to appear as a joint but not connect to its child joints, a clumsy workaround is to put the child joint under two empty groups. That is,

joint1

  • group1
    • group2
      • joint2

Joints only search two levels deep (to group2) to find child joints to draw to, so this puts them out of reach and it won’t draw the connection.

You wouldn’t want to do this with a ton of joints, so it’s not always a great solution. I do this all the time to prevent twist joints in elbows and legs from being drawn, without disabling drawing of the main elbow/knee/etc joint.

Another method would be to show the selection handles (under display-> transform display -> selection handles) of the joints in addition to setting the draw style to none as Onouris suggested. you can still see/select the joints that way
