PRE-PRODUCTION THREAD:Concept Art for Next Challenge: Post here..

#1

The next modeling challenge will be
“The Queen of the Rocketmen”

We need as much airships concept art as we can get.
If you choose, after the model is finished, you can use it on the
upcoming fxwars challenge.

Here is a link to our first thread:

Imagine you have been comissioned to do video games based on the aviation world of the 1930
A world of danger advanture, air pirates, zepellins and crazy air machines… (similar to the Indiana Jones universe, but where Jet packs, giant air machines and robot hechmen are a reality)

Join us as the Queen of the Rocketmen and her band of merry men fight the evil air pirates in the air above the South Pacific.

Here is some of the concept art we have accumulated:

so would low poly models work as concept art or would that be working too much towards the modeling challenge?

#4

I don’t think I quite get the scope of this challenge yet so I’ll wait and see what more details emerge.

My questions:
Do you want us to do concept drawings for the challenge?
Do you need concept drawings before the challenge starts?
Do you want us to do concept models for the challenge?

Yeah I know, they overlap a bit.

#5

That would work toward the challenge.

Here is how it works, if you alaready have a vision of something you want to model
you DONT NEED concept art. As long as it is in the spirit of the topic of the challenge you can model it.

If you wish,
but already have concept art accumulated for this challenge (and I am doing some myself)
I just wanted to give a chance to the modellers to create some concept art of their own before we go live.

If you wish, but you dont need to.

so are we talking about like futuristic ideas from a mind in the 1930s?

Rocketeer style?

The National Library of France has print from 1910 that show what they thought the year 2000 would be like.

or are we coming up with what could have existed then? like…

heres what i have so far… sorry about the quality i had to use my phones camera cause i dont have a scanner :frowning:

as for the engine on the back pack i was thinking of doing something along a smaller version of this rocket engine meant for a plane.

any critiques or suggestions would be more then welcome.

So I am new to the community and my first time participating in one of the challenges so I want to make sure I am on the right track.

So I am usually more interested in the environment so I was wondering what would change if there were air ships instead of subway stations and people used jet packs instead of bikes and cars so I came up with a building concept idea that has an airship landing and a landing area for pedestrians on jet packs - since everyone is in the air I put machinery on ground level. Excuse my crude sketches as I usually just go to modeling once I get an idea.

I posted the idea as I might use it but I can see how there can be spins off or just certain areas done like just the air ship landing area or the jet pac landing area for others to have inspiration to spin off from.

So let me know if I am on track or spinning off too far.

I love Miyazaki’s use of flight in his movies, always spellbinding.

So pretty much anything from “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” is what you are looking for.

#17

Oh man, those are awesome. I Wish I had wings strapped to my back!! I’m gonna start conceptualizing for the year 2100

Another nice movie for some inspiration is “Sky Crawlers” its new anime from the ghost in the shell creator, It is kinda a tough/slow watch but there are some sweet 40’s WWII style aircraft designs in there and the scenes in the movie with em are all CG too.
