Post your first digital painting

@ Yeoh … wow that image looks really cool!

so … this is my first and only digital painting.
it’s a copy of a reference by spawn (not an overpaint - but i picked the colors with the colorpicker from the original to use them in my image)

cheers chris

Based off a Haiku, no ref used (can you tell? hehe) It’s old now, and before i started to get serious about digital illustration. I just relocated, and landed a job, so I can now start working on illustrations. Hopefully I’ll be able to post more work soon, and get some webspace so I can start a WIP when I feel more confident. I still can’t “find” colors digitally, like i’m used to with traditional media, but i’m beginning to learn.

Very nice stuff!

This is my very first post here at CGtalk and my very first digital-painting.
This was done in Photoshop 3 in 1997 (whoa thats old),
back then there were no layers available as far as i remember. clouds are a photo.

since then I made none – but now trying to get myself to!

Some of the entries here are really impressive for first times!

My first “real and serious” digital I did was this piece:

but my first painting using a graphics tablet was this one:

[i]My first digital picture was just a little lineart coloring for my neopets eyrie. But my first real (in my mind) digital painting was done with track ball, and i was trying to get a blended paint look, as opposed to just cell shading, and was something kind of inspired by one of my friends. Between those pieces, there is a lot of lineart coloring, but it’s mostly cell-shaded, and just not very good at all.

Yeoh - Your perception and use of light is superb, no doubt aided by your 3d background. In a funny twist, I’m learning 3d to suppliment my 2d drawing

This image was completed when I purchased my first tablet. I had no interest in making the image smooth or realistic, I just thought it incredibly cool that I could “draw” in Photoshop

Hah, sorry for digging out an old thread but I finally found something I could “share” with the community, haha.

God, this stuff is old, from around 1994-1995, I was around 15-16 at that time… All made with a two button mouse (a Wacom? what’s that? haha) in Autodesk Animator (anybody remembers this program? it was GREAT for that time, what happened to this company??) under DOS, sitting in front of a 14’’ CRT… Yeah, and it was one of the last times I painted anything at all, I basically stopped doing anything art related for almost 10 years short after that, with the exception of the occasional drawing once a year, which soon stopped as well… I just recently picked up drawing again, trying to work up the last 10 wasted years…

I had animator pro, that was a cool prog. I use Combustion now, which still has some elements of animator.
