Possible to set keyboard shortcuts for these buttons?

#1

I have searched through the Preferences Panel (and used the Search facility in the Shortcuts panel) but I cannot find any way to attach keyboard shortcuts to the following buttons.

Is this possible? I don’t like the default Rotate, Scale, translate “R”, “S” and “T” functions because it doesn’t seem possible to constrain them to a particular axis (but I am new to Blender) - please tell me if there is.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks
Richard

Just hit ‘X’, ‘Y’, or ‘Z’ after ‘R’, ‘S’, or ‘T’ and you will get the constraint you need.

#3

Thank you! This has bugged the heck out of me too.

#4

And further, holding shift X, Y, or Z for will exclude the constraint and use the other two. eg. shift-Z will constrain your translation to X and Y.

#5

Good point, I forgot that one.

You can also hit R, G, or S and then middle click your mouse while moving it in the desired direction to constrain. It takes some practice but this is the method I prefer.

#6

got to love that (useful for moving stuff on the ground)

#7

And don’t forget R, followed by R again to rotate your object in a trackball type method.

#8

Useful, thanks!

In blender 2.4x the keyboard shortcuts were Ctrl+Space (manipulator on/off), Ctrl+Alt+G (grab manipulator), Ctrl+Alt+R (rotate manipulator), Ctrl+Alt+S (scale manipulator). I cannot currently see any keyboard shortcut in blender 2.5

Is there any way in 2.5 to constrain rotation to e.g. 15 degree jumps?

I might have hit R then Z for example, to start the rotation, but can I snap it to an exact value? That is something I use a lot.

#11

Hold the Ctrl key down while rotating or just type the rotation eg R / X / 30 rotates along the x axis 30 degrees

<Ctrl> doesn’t seem to make any discernable difference to the rotation - it certainly doesn’t quantise it into X degree jumps.

As in the older blender 2.4x versions, holding down the Ctrl key when rotating rotates in 5 degree increments (see lower left of 3d view for the number of degrees).

Got you now thanks - but Ctrl only has that effect if you press it AFTER beginning the rotation. If Ctrl is already pressed (as I was doing), it has no effect. This is similar to at least one other 3D package I use.
