pose space deformer, setting a morph target

yo,

i have one question. You know in maya 2017 you can sculpt morph targets for your character mesh at different pose positions.

i was wondering if it was at all possible for, instead of sculpting the morph target, you could instead set the new mesh shape by setting new vert point positions with a python script.

Im not after the code to do the setting of points, i was just want to know if its possible for me to set new vert positions for my mesh in a certain pose rather that only being able to generate new shapes by sculpting

this may not make sense, but any help would be a life saver
