Portfolio Critique Appreciated

#1

Hello! I would very much appreciate an honest critique of the concept art/illustration pieces in my portfolio found here. These are what I believe are the strongest pieces:

Thank you very much in advance for viewing/commenting/critiquing. I believe my strongest point is colour and my weakest points are values and finish.

Don’t take my word for granted, but taking on experience from what i gathered recently, with my job hunting, research on internet and art directors on internship practices, you have very little concept design examples. I almost would dare to say none. The pictures might work as a very early draft, but nothing of “in production”.
While it might just be the case that you didn’t had time for that yet, and you just hope the person that looks at will notice that you have some skill to invent new things, the reality is most likely they will just say you don’t have enough experience in that particular field task (even if you have) and unless it’s some indie/internship etc thing that is literally working with little to none budged, you prolly won’t get that job.
Most of you work are rather illustrations than concept design. Feng zhu has a nice video where he talks about differences between illustration and concept design, you might want to check it out.

But as an for your illustrations. They have a distinctive style, that might be ok for certain types of games. Mostly i see it beeing used related with childrens book or alike. Can’t deny it’s more sweet than gritty.
So not bad, has it’s usefullness, but my suggestion would be to try to diversify abit. For example try adding something more hard surface to all the sweetness.

Overall not bad. Sorry if this isn’t very helpfull and gl wih your further work.
