Polygroups and Hiding with Lasso Tool

I am working on the Mech Robot Tutorial (and looking for any Robot Tutorials I can find if anyone knows of more!) and though these tutorials are the best I’ve found anywhere, they still lack some details.

Where I’m hung up is in the first step of creating the calf plate. I extract, save and then the plate is broken up into polygroups. Then the tutorial shows how he selected the outer rim of the plate along with the 4 holes we created in it. So far so good, but then he uses the Lasso select tool and wants me to hide the 4 holes. He uses the tool, surrounds the 4 holes and they vanish. I do the exact same thing and everything except the holes vanish!

I feel like I’ve tried everything but simply don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

sounds like you have 2 separate tools,
merge them together,
your only effecting the subtool your on,
you can’t effect 2 separate subtools at the same time with the Lasso

(when you extract it will make a separate subtool)
