poly budgets?

hi,

to the more experienced folks out there, what is a reasonable poly count on scenery props in todays typical games. Example, in a bathroom scene how many polys would you allow for the various props within the scene toilets, sinks, etc. My main character is around 5K poly, using the 3d gamestudio engine.

Totally depends… what hardware you require, how many rendering passes, how big is the room, etc. One rule of thumb might be to go with ~500 triangles per item, knowing that you might have to reduce or you may be able to increase once you see how it all runs.

Does 3D Gamestudio offer real-time performance stats?

thanks for the feedback eric, I agree 500 sounds like a good baseline to work from, Im not sure if the engine does real time perf stats, will look into though…
