Point of View - short film

Hi folks!

It’s been a long time since I posted something here on cgsociety forums… Anyway, I’m currently working on my degree project, a short movie called Point of View. I’m going to use again my favorite characters - sperms :slight_smile: but please, consider it just a form, I realize they are more easily animateable than bipeds or even quadrupeds… however, it’s not only about making my job easier (ok, another cheat - I don’t have to figure out how male and female characters will differ :stuck_out_tongue: ), it’s also about evolution of opinion.

I found out a lot of things that I was blind to, right in this year, 2012 and I feel that I want to share some of my recent experience with the world. And hopefully to show audience, how realization of certain things can lead to the right path. OK, maybe I’m little too naive, but this concept is definitely a great motivator for me :slight_smile:

There is sort of a killer deadline - I have to deliver the final result at the beginning of september (if I don’t want to lenghten my studies till june 2013)… Right now I have completed 2D animatic, concepts, almost all the 3D models (just a bunch of details remaining) and am ready for rigging. After that, I’ll model layout environment and make 3D version of animatic, which I’m going to use as a guideline for the final modeling…

Oh I didn’t mention technique, did I?

I found that I just don’t like sitting in front of computer anymore, therefore I involved some fun work with clay sculpture and energy drinks cans that I collected for no reason over last three years (well I guess not all of them but at least enough to make some interesting models :))

Soooo, after I’ll have 3D animatic, I can move into my studio garage (which is still sort of wip, need to get few little details out of way, then I’ll post some photos) and create models from clay, cans and light it with LED lights… currently I’m working on DIY softbox - a lot of fun, even if it got a bit complicated:D and then I hope everything will be ready for shooting (on greenscreen if I find a way to change the color of current redscreen :smiley: ), matchmoving and compositing… I believe I can spare a lot of time on rendering, since I’ll have the environment in real… but I’m really not sure about time I’ll need for tracking…:shrug:

so the story is about conflict between organic and mechanic form and about cognition of truth…

yes, there is point where 6 faces meet, I just couldn't figure out how  to make topology better.. besides, 3D modelling is really NOT my  favourite part, I hope there won't be much problem with it...

Another one is The Machine (I don't have to reveal it's purpose right now, do I? :) ) first, the concept (oooh, it was bad, I had to figure out a lot of things right in my 3D window, aargh)

this thing will suck up the sperms, I developed a name in czech language but I'm really not sure how tu translate it:D probably the closest shot is "suckerhose" (bottom view)

Now this is something me and my friend made about 9 months ago - it’s approx. 40x40cm model made of modelling clay lit with bicycle light, bunch of red LEDs and with some water pipe smoke :slight_smile: I’ll work on similar look of the environment, except one thing - everything is probably going to be white to be ready for some postpro coloring, however, I’ll have to do some test, whether the real or computer-generated smoke will do better…
