All say that 3ds max is used so many plugins.

When you are a beginner Max looks plenty of features, and indeed it is; take your time to learn modelling, animation and render inside Max. Once you master this, plugins will not afraid you, they are ussually well integrated and with lots of tutorials to guide you. Plugins are needed when the default max features fails to make the work, I think Fume fx and Vray are a must , I have also used occasionally rayfire and pulldownit for dynamics.
