pls help!

hi,

I am new to lightwave, and i have a doubt that has been buggin’ me. I close my file halfway through a model in modeler and then close the application for some time. Afterwards, when i open the model and try to edit it it stops functioning and gives me a dialog box reading that the object is read-only.

I am very desperate here. I don’t know what to do. I would be grateful if any of you could help me out here.

thanks in advance.

rightclick on the file and goto properties. There you can uncheck the readonly box.

if that doesn’t work, copy it and rename it.

thanks vonbon, i will check that once i go home. But what i wonder is that it never happens with other software like max. I never read protect my files. So, what i was wondering was there was something i need to do inside lightwave that will rectify this problem.

pls advice.

im not sure to be honest, but i have not had this happen before, except when i pulled a model from a cd.

I have had it happen but only on the crappy Dell desktops where I used to work and that could have been for any number of reasons including software and hardware. I think that it usually happened after a crash but I’m not 100% sure as it hasn’t happened to me since working for myself.

Can you give some more details on the version of Lightwave, operating system, computer spec, location of the files (local HD, USB drive, Server etc.)…

I seem to remember that you can save the file under a different name (which is always good practice). I personally always save my initial file as ‘Object_v001.lwo’, then choose save incrimental which automatically increases the number after the ‘v’ .

If your model gets corrupt, go to c:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\LwHub… you’ll find number of models that hub has backed up for you. Search for the latest model name of yours and copy it back to your work directory.
It saved my behind for so many times now

yes, very useful…but only if the hub is set to auto-save
